Joni Mitchell wrote of The Sizzling of Summer Lawns about this time of the year, thinking of browned turf grass, but our prairie is in full growth mode right now. Not bothered by high temperatures, intense sun and sudden thunderstorms, taking in all the sky can send it! Let’s go explore and help the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie for a few hours!
Our next volunteer day at the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie this Saturday, August 19 from 9:00 until noon. Forecast calls for temps in the mid-80s with little chance of rain. I think we will be fine, folks!
This month, we will again be meeting at Salt Creek and the Illinois Prairie Path, four blocks west of our usual meet up spot at Berkley Ave and the IPP. Last month, we worked in the same area, cutting larger invasive trees, so this month, we will be going after smaller invasives. If you have your own gloves, loppers or hand saws (no power tools!) please bring them along, if not we should have plenty. And please arrive just before 9:00 for the orientation meeting. Arriving early is especially important for first timers so you hear the complete instructions and learn about safety issues.
Talk it up with your friends! Hope to see you all on Saturday, August 19 at 9:00 AM sharp!
Please contact Eric Keeley at keeley.eric@gmail.com if you can come.
