Please join our friends at the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie for the next workday this Saturday.
*****************************
Our next volunteer day at the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie this Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 until noon. Forecast calls for a cloudy but relatively dry day.
We will be meeting at the bench just west of Berkley Avenue and the Illinois Prairie Path. We are expecting a large group, so if you have your own gloves, loppers or hand saws (no power tools!) please bring them along. And please arrive just before 9:00 for the orientation meeting (and a surprise if you read below). Arriving early is especially important for first timers so you hear the complete instructions and learn about safety issues.
Everyone attending Saturday’s volunteer event must bring a newly completed hard copy of the Volunteer Liability Waiver Form. Unless, of course, you handed one in at a volunteer day earlier in 2023. Each new year, each volunteer must submit a new form, so print out the attached form and bring it along, please. Minor’s forms must be completed by a parent or guardian. Thanks for being compliant!
Tasks for this Saturday include:
Clearing woody plants east of Berkley Ave starting at the first electric pole. Once we reach that landmark, we may continue further east. Cutting every woody plant except marked Bur Oak trees and sumac. Sumac will be pulled by hand and using Weed Wrenches to remove as much root stock as possible.
Two people will clean and polish the instructional signs along the Illinois Prairie Path, starting at Spring Road and ending at Salt Creek.
Talk it up with your friends! Hope to see you all on Saturday, June 17 at 9:00 AM sharp!
Take it easy, but take it!
