IPP 60th Anniversary Celebration & Family Bike Ride: Glen Ellyn Park District & IPPc

September 30, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Illinois Prairie Path (IPP) conversion efforts reached a milestone on Monday, September 30, 1963 when the Chicago Tribune published a letter to the editor from May Theilgaard Watts advocating for a public path on the abandoned route of the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Electric (CA&E) rail line.  Public response to her letter was immediate and enthusiastic. However, the complexities and challenges involved in developing a public path on the CA&E land were monumental.  To learn more about the rich history of the IPP, please visit ipp.org/history

The Glen Ellyn Park District and the Illinois Prairie Path not-for-profit corporation invite you to attend an IPP 60-year anniversary celebration. The event will be held Saturday, September 30th from 1:00 pm-4:00pm at Prairie Path Park (between Park and Main) in Glen Ellyn. Although the event is called a Family Bike Ride, we encourage riders and non-riders to attend for fun, music, games and an IPP history lesson. Registration is required to ride. All registrants will receive a Glen Ellyn Park District/IPP goodie bag, a Heavenly Hot Dog (local business) meal, as well as fruit and a drink.
