Partners in Mission: Bike to the Lake

August 1 @ 6:30 am - 12:00 pm

Please note that this is not an Illinois Prairie Path event but may be of interest to IPP members & users especially because a good portion of the ride will be on the Path.

We’re getting close…I hope you are excited and have been riding in preparation for August 1st.
As you are all aware, the ride to Lake Geneva has been put off for one year in favor of a local ride. Too many construction hurdles to overcome as well as worry over riding the bus. The local ride was supposed to include a ride north to S. Elgin, a turn south to Aurora, and then a ride back to Glen Ellyn. Unfortunately, there is a massive construction project under I88 so instead of riding to Aurora, we will be turning at the Batavia spur. The ride is now 47 miles. Here is the Google map of the ride. Please look it over in detail.
I will have a mile by mile print out for you a few days before as well as the morning of the ride.
So this year we are going to send off riders in two groups and at two separate times. The first group will include riders who expect to average 13 mph or less over the 47 miles and the second group will include those riders who expect to average over 13 mph. Please note that half the ride will be on the Prairie Path so that will inevitably slow you down. The first group should arrive at The First Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn at 6:30 am for check in with wheels rolling at 7:00 am. The second group should arrive at the church at 7:30 and will start the ride at 8:00. The reason we are starting later this year is that we have found a restaurant (downtown GE) that can accommodate us!..Two Hound Red! However, they won’t open until 11:30, hence the reason for the later start.
When we arrive at Two Hound Red, there will be 3-4 tents set up in their parking lot and riders will have a choice of lunch and libations. We will all need to follow the guidelines that will keep everyone safe and will adhere to the restaurant’s policy as well.
I expect Rob from Bicycle Illinois to paint the route by the end of next week so if possible, I encourage you to ride it (or a portion) ahead of time. It would be a great training ride and would familiarize you with the route.
Finally, registration closes Friday July 17 so if you are going to ride, please register online asap If you have registered but haven’t yet paid (per my recommendation), please do so by the 17th.
This year has been quite a challenge to say the least, which is why I’m so happy to get to this point!. I am so grateful for all of you who have ridden, volunteered, and donated over the years and have been instrumental in providing a better life for students at the Kamwenge Secondary & Vocational School in Uganda. Thank you!
As always, feel free to call me with any questions 312.806.9915
